Silas, security/grounds keeper

AMJM, Kenya
We want to help our NGO partner pay teachers and caregivers fair wages for their hard and dedicated work. You can help make that possible.   Meet Silas!    Silas has served as the orphanage’s 24/7 security and ground’s keeping fo the past 2 years. Silas met Bishop Patroba through AMJM church.  He has a family that live close by to the orphanage- a wife and 10 children.  Before coming to the orphanage, Silas had been running a small business of his own but struggled to make ends meet.  He was saved in 1993 amidst a challenging childhood- “I lived a very hard life growing up.” Being born into a family with a father that didn’t accept him as his own and striving to care for himself since a young age.  He feels that God had it in His plans to connect him with Bishop and holds onto this hope for his life. His prayer is that God will provide for a larger home for his family with lots of land.    Consider sponsoring him today!   A note from the Kenya Now team: Your recurring donation to this program is pooled into a collective fund and benefiting all the workers as a whole. Questions? Stella C.

AMJM, Kenya
Age: 20
Stella’s life has been marked by profound loss and resilience. Her father left when she was very young, and her mother later passed away. Stella was then taken in by a single mother who cared for her, but tragically, this woman also passed away last year after battling cervical cancer. Today, Stella has no immediate family to rely on. Her younger brother is currently being looked after by a kind neighbor, but his future is uncertain. Stella has been working tirelessly to try to support him.   In her determination to provide for her brother, Stella sought employment at a local school. Unfortunately, she experienced a traumatic assault by one of the teachers and made the courageous decision to leave that environment. Despite this hardship, Stella has not given up. Stella has heard of the positive impact happening through our partnership with Bishop, and she has been visiting him daily in search of honest work and guidance. She is eager to rebuild her life and pursue a meaningful future. Stella hopes to study Agriculture, believing it will equip her with practical skills to support herself, help her brother return to school, and eventually contribute to her community. With sponsorship support, Stella can begin a new chapter—one defined not by loss, but by opportunity, healing, and hope. Your support would provide stability, education, and the chance for Stella to build a sustainable future for herself and her brother. You can view her personal interview here:  Stella’s story A contribution of $3,500 USD covers two full years of tuition, a computer, and room and board. This can be given as a one-time payment. If you are interested in installment options or have any questions, please feel free to email us at sponsorships@kenyanow.org.

Timothy M. (AMJM)

AMJM, Kenya
Age: 20
Timothy’s story started when Bishop Patroba and Ruth’s son came to them with concerns that his friend at school didn’t look well and came to school dirty every day. Ruth went to the school to inquire on Timothy’s situation and they confirmed that he always came to school unkept and that they were concerned about his well-being at home. Bishop visited Timothy’s home and found that he was living in extreme conditions. He described the house as a shed meant for animals, a father who was a violent alcoholic and a mother who was rarely home and struggling with mental illness. Bishop explained “almost every night his father would come home as a drunkard and force Timothy out of the shelter. Timothy often slept under banana trees and over time grew very ill and weak.” They took him to the doctors, Timothy’s first time ever, where he was treated for severe malaria and liver disease. “When we first saw him he was very weak and yellow. His whole body was yellow. He had never, ever seen a doctor before, even today he is still sick with chronic issues but he gains strength every day and we thank God for that.” Today Timothy continues to battle with chronic malaria and sickle cell anemia and receives monthly medical treatments. Bishop says, “He may not be an orphan, but his parents completely disowned him. I go out of my way to check on his parents. To this day they never visit or ask about him. It’s a sad situation. Ruth and I are blessed to have a son who saw an opportunity to change his friend’s life.” Timothy lives full-time with Bishop, his wife and children due to his complicated ongoing medical issues. Timothy is currently in grade 11 and dreams of going to pilot school.

AMJM, Kenya
2025 Update - Hello! My name is Walter and I attend Rebirth Academy in Kenya.  I live Rebirth Children's Home and one of my favorite things to do is play soccer. One of my favorite memory verses is Psalm 28:7. Thank you for helping with my education and please pray for me. May God bless you!     Translated interview 2/2022 -My mother died during child labor. The baby died too. My father didn’t handle this very well and he told everyone he was going to Uganda to prepare a fundraiser for the funeral, but he ran away. I don’t know if he is still alive. Our grandma was very old but she took us in anyway. She had a lot of problems. She couldn’t afford rent, bedding, food or basic supplies. One day Bishop was doing evangelism and he heard about how we had nothing in our house. Bishop brought my grandma what she needed in the house like a chair, food, and supplies. He then took us to the orphanage to live. We had never learned before. Now we know how to learn.
