Help me send Stella to University & Shadrach’s last year of high school

$3,464.00 raised
%
Recently, I went to Africa with an organization called KenyaNow.org. on a missions trip. Our mission is to support widows and orphans alongside Bishop Patroba Wanyonyi. I was able to meet with Stella and hear her courageous story. Stella’s life has been marked by profound loss and resilience. Her father left when she and her younger brother, Shadrach, were very young, and their mother later passed away. Stella and her brother were taken in by a single mother who cared for them, but tragically, this woman also passed away late last year after battling cervical cancer. Stella now has no immediate family to rely on. She has been living on the street in very unsafe conditions. Shadrach has been looked after by a kind neighbor, but his future is uncertain. Stella prayed every day that God would provide a home so she and her brother could be together again. She has been working tirelessly to try to support them both. In her determination to provide for her brother, Stella sought employment at a local school. Unfortunately, she experienced a traumatic assault by one of the teachers and made the courageous decision to leave that environment. Despite this hardship, Stella has not given up. Stella heard of the positive impact happening through our partnership with Bishop, and she has been visiting him daily in search of honest work and guidance. She is eager to rebuild her life and pursue a meaningful future for herself and her brother. Stella hopes to study Agriculture, believing it will equip her with practical skills to support herself, help her brother to return to his last year of high school, and eventually contribute to her community. About two weeks ago Bishop received a donation for housing for Stella and Shadrach so they now are safe and together again. They are both very thankful for this kindness. Please help me with sponsorship support for Stella and Shadrach. Stella can begin a new chapter - one defined not by loss, but by opportunity, healing, and hope. Your support would provide stability, education and the chance for Stella to build a sustainable future for herself and her brother. Education is one of the most powerful tools for breaking cycles of poverty. Stella is hoping to go to University to study Agriculture. This fundraiser will cover two full years of tuition, a computer and room and board for her which helps create opportunities for long-term success. The fundraiser will also cover the cost of one year of high school for Shadrach. Every contribution, big or small, moves her one step closer in reaching her goals so when she graduates she can come back and educate her community and improve their agricultural skills to reach new potentials in Kenya.

Timothy M. (AMJM)

AMJM, Kenya
Age: 20
Timothy’s story started when Bishop Patroba and Ruth’s son came to them with concerns that his friend at school didn’t look well and came to school dirty every day. Ruth went to the school to inquire on Timothy’s situation and they confirmed that he always came to school unkept and that they were concerned about his well-being at home. Bishop visited Timothy’s home and found that he was living in extreme conditions. He described the house as a shed meant for animals, a father who was a violent alcoholic and a mother who was rarely home and struggling with mental illness. Bishop explained “almost every night his father would come home as a drunkard and force Timothy out of the shelter. Timothy often slept under banana trees and over time grew very ill and weak.” They took him to the doctors, Timothy’s first time ever, where he was treated for severe malaria and liver disease. “When we first saw him he was very weak and yellow. His whole body was yellow. He had never, ever seen a doctor before, even today he is still sick with chronic issues but he gains strength every day and we thank God for that.” Today Timothy continues to battle with chronic malaria and sickle cell anemia and receives monthly medical treatments. Bishop says, “He may not be an orphan, but his parents completely disowned him. I go out of my way to check on his parents. To this day they never visit or ask about him. It’s a sad situation. Ruth and I are blessed to have a son who saw an opportunity to change his friend’s life.” Timothy lives full-time with Bishop, his wife and children due to his complicated ongoing medical issues. Timothy is currently in grade 11 and dreams of going to pilot school.

2025 Update - Hello! My name is Walter and I attend Rebirth Academy in Kenya.  I live Rebirth Children's Home and one of my favorite things to do is play soccer. One of my favorite memory verses is Psalm 28:7. Thank you for helping with my education and please pray for me. May God bless you!     Translated interview 2/2022 -My mother died during child labor. The baby died too. My father didn’t handle this very well and he told everyone he was going to Uganda to prepare a fundraiser for the funeral, but he ran away. I don’t know if he is still alive. Our grandma was very old but she took us in anyway. She had a lot of problems. She couldn’t afford rent, bedding, food or basic supplies. One day Bishop was doing evangelism and he heard about how we had nothing in our house. Bishop brought my grandma what she needed in the house like a chair, food, and supplies. He then took us to the orphanage to live. We had never learned before. Now we know how to learn.

Wesley K.

AMJM, Kenya
Age: 9
At nine years old, Wesley was living in a terrifying situation. Local authorities, who had been monitoring an escalating case of severe abuse and neglect in his home, were forced to intervene. They feared for his life and immediately notified our staff at the Rebirth Children's Home. For years, Wesley endured escalating abuse and deprivation. Now, thanks to the swift action of local police and the dedicated staff of Rebirth Children’s Home and Kenya Now Organization, Wesley is safe, cared for, and no longer hungry. Wesley’s story is a profound reminder of the dire circumstances faced by many vulnerable children in Western Kenya. The memory of Tamu, a former three year old student who tragically lost her life due to similar conditions, fuels our commitment to identify and rescue children like Wesley. His safety is Tamu’s legacy. Today, Wesley is adjusting to his new life at the Rebirth Academy. He loves playing with his new adopted family and will be working hard to catch up on the schooling he missed. Your sponsorship will make the difference between a life of fear and a future full of promise. By sponsoring Wesley, you directly cover the costs of his housing, nutritious meals, and quality education. Help us ensure Wesley never faces abuse or neglect again. Sponsor Wesley today and give him the security and hope he deserves. Wycliffe B.

AMJM, Kenya
Age: 12
Wycliffe and his sister, Nadia, are students at the Rebirth Academy, the school operated by our partner ministry, Abundant Mercy of Jesus Ministries in Kenya. They grew up only knowing a life of abandonment and survival. Born into a life of severe poverty, they never knew their father. Their mother abandoned them leaving them with their elderly grandmother. Their grandmother was an alcoholic often leaving at night without returning, neglecting to feed or provide basic needs such as clothing or taking them to the doctor. In fact, the only clothing these children owned were the school uniforms that were provided free through Kenya Now’s scholarship program. The food provided by Kenya Now’s Nutrition Program provided these children, as well as nearly 100 other local children, with 3 well balanced meals per day. Before attending this school Wycliffe and Nadia often went days without food and drank filthy water. In March of 2024, following the tragic death of student Tamu (read her story here), the Director of AMJM identified these children as being in dire living conditions and had them removed from their grandmother’s house. They are now permanent residents at the Abundant Mercy Orphanage, a place where shelter and food is secure, healthcare is provided, education is celebrated and love and acceptance is paramount. These children will be going through a healing process that many of us will never endure or understand. We are confident that through the love and acceptance our savior Jesus Christ that these children will slowly yet surely begin to find their new identity and precious worth.    How do our sponsorships work?We only post sponsorships for the orphans at the AMJM children’s home. Each sponsorship profile represents all the neglected children in the surrounding community that we serve. Each of our sponsorship profiles has multiple $30 “shares”. These shares allow multiple people to sponsor the same student helping Kenya Now and AMJM the opportunity to provide free education to children affected by severe poverty. As of April 2024, 84 children are provided free education because of the 16 sponsorship profiles listed on our online portal. Please consider sponsoring this child today.

Our Fuel to Serve

This week has settled down a bit on our end, though our Kenyan ministry partners, Bishop and Ruth, have been dealing with a lot. They’ve been busy with multiple funerals for church members, including a tragic situation where a three-year-old was struck by a vehicle last week. To top it off, Bishop’s vehicle was impounded because the tires were completely worn out—the roads in Kenya are incredibly rough, far beyond any off-road logging path you've ever traversed. Please continue your prayers for Abundant Mercy of Jesus Ministries (AMJM). While Kenya Now is committed to our joint mission of education, nutrition, and widow empowerment, AMJM does so much more. They are the powerhouse of God’s movement in the region, and we are blessed to work alongside them. Their church system is always in need of financial support for crusades, leadership seminars, and more. You can donate directly to their evangelistic mission through our Spiritual Awakening Program. I encourage you to explore how you can be a part of their overall ministry. Supporter Initiated Fundraiser One of our volunteers, Robin, has started her own fundraiser for a university student named Stella. She is accepting monetary gifts at the link I just listed and in-kind donations for a Savers FunDrive. Spring cleaning season is here, and if you're like us, clearing out the clutter is probably imminent. If you have items to spare, consider donating them to Robin. Savers weighs all the donations and gifts a portion of the proceeds directly to her Kenya Now fundraiser. It’s a simple way to clear your space while fueling the mission. Email Robin to coordinate a drop-off today. You can also create your own online fundraiser directly from our website. Start here. A Shoutout to the Team Kara and I want to give a massive shoutout to Sara Tremblay, our sponsorship coordinator, and her dedicated team of volunteers. This past month, Sara has worked tirelessly to update every single child's profile with new pictures and information, ensuring our sponsors stay informed. These kids grow so much year after year, and right now, nearly 100 children are still waiting for a sponsor. You might ask, "What does a monthly sponsorship actually do?" Here is the deal: We have a large catalog of students ranging from Pre-K to University. People often get stuck trying to decide who needs it most. The good news is that every child benefits from every sponsorship gift—it’s what powers our entire school and orphanage. So why sponsor a specific child? Because we want you to see the real faces, names, and dreams that your gift impacts. We want you to pray for your specific child (and all of them) so that God shines His favor over them. I am confident we are raising future doctors, nurses, scientists, teachers, and great leaders of East Africa. Your investment goes significantly further than any of us can imagine. I still can’t believe God called my family into this wild mission. Thank you for joining us—and please consider sponsoring a child today. It truly means the world. Have a blessed weekend.

Ben & Joel Need Your Help!

Do you remember Benjamin and Joel? They are the two young brothers we found living in horrific conditions with their elderly grandmother. When we reached them, all three were malnourished and in a state of medical crisis. My brother, Bishop, was an orphan himself and lived through similar conditions. He called me nearly in tears when he saw them. He knows exactly what those boys are feeling. Kenya Now and Abundant Mercy of Jesus moved immediately. we provided food, mattresses, and built them a new shelter because their old one was so infested with parasites it was unlivable. I am relieved to report they are doing better, but the road back is difficult. People often ask why we don't just bring them into the children's home immediately. The reality is that we have to protect the other children first. Both boys have severe skin infections caused by chiggers—a parasite that burrows into the skin to lay eggs. Bishop hired a local specialist to treat them. It is a grueling process. They have to soak their feet in a tarry solution to suffocate the larvae, and then the dead tissue is physically removed with a knife. I am sharing these details because this is the reality for a 3-year-old and a 5-year-old right now. We cannot gloss over how serious this is. Once they are cleared medically, we will welcome them into the Rebirth Children's Home. This brings our total to 29 children. They also need to start at Rebirth Academy to make up for the school they've missed. We need to get these brothers sponsored immediately. Your monthly gift pays for the caregivers, the teachers, and the medical care required to give these boys a real life. Please prayerfully consider picking up a sponsorship share today. Our supporters are the only reason we can step in for children like Benjamin and Joel. Read their profiles below. Pray for them, and please, sponsor them.   View Their Sponsorship Profiles
